Iyi bir baslangic yapmissin odeve.
Turkiye'nin buyuk illerinde de, Toronto'dakine benzer uygulamalar var.
Mesela, belediye dilencileri toplayip sehir disina cikarir arada bir.
Boylece, yoksullar goz onunden kaldirilarak, yoksulluk sorunu sip sak cozulur.

"adalet mülkün temelidir" :
ama bu cümlede mülk property anlamında değil, state/sovereignty anlamında.
because it's originally an arabic word with a few different meanings in use, i suppose. this sentence is written on the wall behind the judges in courthouses.
considering how long an ordinary trial lasts in Turkey, some say: "atalet mülkün temelidir" where atalet is laziness,inaction :)
süleyman, Türkiyede kavramlar çok zıt yerlerde kullanılır.
Mesela adalet sarayı: Mahkemelere buralarda bakılır. Fakata geç gelen adalet aldalet değildir hesabı saray değil tam tersidir.
Yine Türkiyede bazı gazteler türkiyeyi seviyoruz diye başlık atıyorlar. Ama milletimize en fazla zararı onlar veriyorlar. Yani türkiyede ne biliyorsan tam tersi diiiir.
adalet=justice
mülk=property=mal but in this sentence=devlet
temel=foundation
it is the motto of the turkish juristiction system.this is really advanced sentence. You should know the old turkish and turkish law system terms to understand.
bu cümle devletin temel unsuru olan adaletin nasıl saglanacagını ve devletin varlıgıyla olan ilgisini anlatır.
buradaki mulk mal anlamına degil egemenlik yani devlet anlamına gelir.

In fact, I have been investigating this further.
I had some discussions with an University of Toronto professor about this.

Evet, ceviri bu cumle cok zor benim icin (I put this one under the "cok zor Turkce odev").
As I mentioned it earlier, I had a discussion with a Philosophy Professor from the University of Toronto about the meaning of this sentence.
He has some interesting ideas.
I will summarize them in a later post - hopefully in Turkish :)

this sentence is the ottoman motto of rulership because ottoman state based her sovereignty on being just. People had the right to revolt against an unjust ruler. Justice maintained peace, peace means regular tax and regular tax means strong army. That army was the basis of strength. historians would have an idea on that. it's also seen in some persian states, i suppose. some say that was the reason for Ottoman Empire to last this long.

Halil İnalcık, another respected expert, has well-known academic papers in English on Ottoman state formation. maybe your professor friend could find them. Neciboğlu has written papers in English on Mehmet the Conqueror, i guess. Şevket Pamuk is a professor of economic history, specialized in the Ottoman times (i was a student of him), i could suggest his books, available in English. all i could add is just stay away from anything too oreintalist :)

(an Islamic leader, Uthman spoke this statement. the fact that Ottomans took it as a motto also illustrates that they applied justice in the way Islam suggests.)

hz.osman degil, hz.Omer'e ait bu soz. hz.Omer adilligiyle meshur bir halife. ben Osmanli ile ikisinin adi da Osman derken bile hz.Omer'den bahsettigimi saniyordum! simdi birden (suddenly) dank etti kafama! inanamiyorum boyle bi hata yaptigima.
it is Omar that spoke this saying, not Uthman. he is a caliph famous with his justice (also one of my favorite historical personalities). i thought i was saying Omar even when i was saying they are both Uthmans (Ottomans and Uthman the caliph)!

I searched it as "The Four Caliphs", and I dit not pay attention to the exact name, either.
Ikinci Halife = Umar (ya da Omar) - sen haklisin.
Kafa = Head
Dank etmek = Anlamak
Turkce sozluk dedi:
kafasina dank etmek = all of a sudden - doğruyu anlamak :)
Even to learn the word "caliph=halife" is good for me.
